1. Where did you first see Warp – TAB or series? First impression?
TAB...yep, that was the first time.
2. How did you “fall in love” with him?
Um...gee, just by watching him I guess. I first liked him because of his "down-to-earth-ness", next to Buzz I mean. And his sarcasm.
3. Do you like his ship?
It's a giant, flying gun. How could you not like it?
4. How about his cybernetic arm?
It's cool. I'd like to know what else it can do.
5. Would he have returned to Star Command? No matter what he would’ve done, is he still a good guy way deep down?
Maybe. I think there would probably have to be at least a little oustside help. Yeah, he definitely has good guy in him somewhere.
6. Many fans seem to think Warp is perv. Do you agree? Why or why not?
I don't think so. He can push things sometimes, but he always did. He doesn't seem to have time to be a perv. *points to Ancient Evil*
7. Share you impressions on Drained!Warp in “Ancient Evil”.
Dilusional, and somewhat hilarious.
8. Favorite Warp episode.
"Tag Team" or "Ancient Evil"
9. Favorite animation style.
...I honestly have no idea...
11. Favorite lines.
hehe... "WHAT PLOT!! You think Zurg is behind every kitten stuck up a tree!" "Hey Zurg *fake cough*...Bad cold, probably contagious*fake cough*."
12. Favorite moments/scenes.
All time favorite...the look on Warp's face as Booster jumped off of Z tower carrying him and XR in TAB. LOL!
13. Best moment. Scariest moment.
Best moment...the...three times that Warp saved Buzz. Scariest moment...the first time I watched TAB and Warp "died"...didn't really like that.
14. Wine, Dare, other pairing, or no pairing?
I like them both, but if I had to choose one, it would be Dare. Just saying.
15. GIRLS ONLY (just in case any guys do this meme): Telling Question – This is unlikely, considering that we’re all just a bunch of cartoon geeks, but! Provided that you’re not already spoken for, if Warp asked you to marry him, WOULD YOU SAY YES?
Maybe. I would like to say yes, but...yeah, we'll go over that later.

1. Where did you first see Warp – TAB or series? First impression?Series – “Ancient Evil” was the very first episode I ever saw. It… left a huge impression on me. I could never see Warp as being unable to come back. 2. How did you “fall in love” with him?You know, I… honestly don’t remember. It might have started with his voice – I don’t know Diedrich Bader outside of BLoSC, but I really love his voice. *shrugs* 3. Do you like his ship? It’s the most unique ship in the series, and different from anything else I’ve ever seen, as well. (Not that I’ve seen much, but still.) It’s beautiful! 4. How about his cybernetic arm?Erm… sorta… It’s cool, it can do a lot of stuff (why do we never get to see that flamethrower in action? *cries), but it’s so… bulky. And it has only four fingers. And HOW DOES HE SLEEP WITH THAT SHIELD THING?? 5. Would he have returned to Star Command? No matter what he would’ve done, is he still a good guy way deep down?Absolutely, to both. “Ancient Evil” was a clear lead-in to future development, but they never got any further. He saved Buzz three times when no bad guy in his right mind would’ve. It’s way down, but it’s there. 6. Many fans seem to think Warp is perv. Do you agree? Why or why not?NOOOOOOO~! If the writers had wanted to establish him as a perv, they would have done so, because they weren’t afraid to make other characters “mature” (XR, Gravitina, Ozma). Warp liked to date girls when he was younger, but we don’t even know if that’s still true today! 7. Share you impressions on Drained!Warp in “Ancient Evil”.I feel so bad for him! They make it funny, but really, it’s pretty sad. I mean, what if they hadn’t been able to reverse the damage? And Zurg keeps pestering him, and I’m here thinking, That’s what you wasted your life on? Congratulations. It’s sad! 8. Favorite Warp episode.“Tag Team” and “Ancient Evil” – the second should be obvious, but the first? I love it that we get such a clear view of Warp’s dichotomous personality. 9. Favorite animation style.TAB, hands down. Normally, I like Sunquakes/Rookie of the Year/War and Peace and War style, but I DON’T like how they draw Warp. He’s too pale and… severe. 11. Favorite lines.“You’re good. But I’m better.” “Hi there. I’m Warp Darkmatter. I’ll be your hijacker for tonight.” “What can I say, Lightyear? For me to win, you have to lose. After all, that’s what really counts in this universe.” “‘Funny, you don’t look sick.’ I don’t look sick, I don’t – can’t a guy take one day off? Argh!” “I’m taking a day off. Call it a personal day.” 12. Favorite moments/scenes.Getting pwned by Mira and Booster in TAB. Getting pwned by Buzz in “Rookie” (no, I am not sadistic). Flying away at the end of “Ancient Evil” – beautiful moment. 13. Best moment. Scariest moment.Saving Buzz from the ion charge in “Ancient Evil.” Flying up at Buzz in “Rookie” – he looks like he’s ready to kill Buzz, and that’s pretty scary. 14. Wine, Dare, other pairing, or no pairing?Wine is awesome, but Dare is where my heart lies (pour too much of my heart into it *smiles*). OTP, FTW! 15. GIRLS ONLY (just in case any guys do this meme): Telling Question – This is unlikely, considering that we’re all just a bunch of cartoon geeks, but! Provided that you’re not already spoken for, if Warp asked you to marry him, WOULD YOU SAY YES?Provided one stipulation was taken care of (the nature of which shall remain private)… TOTALLY YES.

1. Where did you first see Warp – TAB or series? First impression?
When I first heard about the series, I right away rented the TAB movie from the video store and thus I first saw him as a Space Ranger, Buzz’s smart mouthed “buddy cop” partner in the BLoSC universe. And this’ll sound pathetic, but I was ten-years-old at the time and I did not foresee him turning out to be Agent Z, though I did get a lot of funny vibes during the whole “invade the LGMs’ home world” fight scene. Course, I watch the movie now, years later, and I see a MILLION giveaways throughout that makes it obvious that it was Warp under Agent Z’s mask all along, but…well, you know.
The impression of his character as a whole…actually it remained mostly the same after the movie was over. He was still Buzz’s smart mouthed and, I should add, likely very street wise “buddy cop” traitor ex-partner. Only difference was he was now a double agent, but the fact that they’d had that sort of relationship at all just sort of stuck with me. Regarding the revelation that he was a bad guy all along, the second biggest thing that stuck with me, I should say, was that Warp was able to pull the wool over Star Command’s eyes for likely well over two decades. Despite his relatively simple defeat at the end of the movie, the idea that he pulled off a covert espionage act for that long, right under Buzz’s nose, suitably impressed me.
2. How did you “fall in love” with him?
Well, obviously, I came to enjoy his character quite a bit (to be honest, he actually is my favorite character from the show). There was just always something about his background that enthralled me, and when I heard that he actually would be showing up in the series I got very interested in how that would come into play. I guess I started to “fall in love” with him when I started anticipating his appearance more than anyone else’s halfway through.
…Part of it though may be because I have a thing for characters where a majority of either the audience or the characters in the actual show don’t have much regard for the character in question. I used to think it was just a thing for anti-heroes, until in my other fandoms I realized I liked all the characters that no one else really considered, a lot of them actively unpopular characters among fans. Now, I’m aware Warp has a reasonable number of fans (considering this is a small fandom…) but the only characters in the show who care much one way or the other about him at all are Buzz and Zurg. And I can understand why, betrayal is no small slight and should never be taken lightly in reality (I’ve actually had friends who’ve SERIOUSLY betrayed my trust before and I paid badly for it), but even so situations like what happened to me (not that I’m discussing it) or what happened with Warp are rarely as black and white as some people think. In the end, part of me probably felt “sorry” for Warp, and distantly Buzz as well, and another part of me saw the potential for a helluva a lot of good story that no one else may have considered.
3. Do you like his ship?
His ship is definitely recognizable. It shows up, you know it’s Warp, no questions need be asked. Also, I got the impression that the ship had a lot of interesting capabilities, and I wish we could’ve seen more of that aspect of it. I also wish we could’ve seen more of the inside of it; I’m fairly certain it wasn’t literally all gun. Probably had a kickin’ lounge with a disco ball or something. Oh, and a heart-shaped bed. Totally.
4. How about his cybernetic arm?
I have such a thing about part-cyborg characters. Really, his arm reminds me a bit of Bunnie Rabbot from Sonic SatAM. Having an interchangeable ion cannon packed in it is handy, but I’d always secretly wished it had been capable of amazing feats of strength too, just like Bunnie. I think that it was, just not to Booster’s exaggerated degree; it was embarrassing at the time, but getting his metallic claws stuck in the hard alloy of the brig wall during "Rookie Of The Year" has the double implication that there was probably a lot of inhuman force that went into that swing.
5. Would he have returned to Star Command? No matter what he would’ve done, is he still a good guy way deep down?
It’s well known Disney maintains an almost rigid “only 65 episodes” trend, the only exception I know of being Kim Possible because of a huge fan outcry over the issue. Within the span of the show he obviously didn’t return, and I think in particular “Ancient Evil” was the creative staff’s basic attempt at wrapping up Warp’s character arc and the loose ends involved with his relationship with Buzz. Really, I think the point of “Ancient Evil”, even if they were never really able to delve too blatantly into it, was the idea that Warp could come to terms with how important Buzz really was to him (unlike in "Tag Team", where he couldn’t admit to saving Buzz’s hide for fear of admitting to some sort of supposed sentimental weakness), whereas Buzz could come to terms that Warp would be who he was and still matter to him as well, even if it meant Warp would probably never again fight by his side as a Space Ranger.
And practically speaking, for all of Buzz’s hopes I highly doubt that the powers that be at Star Command would’ve allowed Warp to resume being a Space Ranger again if Warp had ever seriously considered it. Warp had turned traitor once before, and forever more would’ve been looked upon as a walking security hazard. I mean, look at Ty Parsec! He was a good (albeit dryly sardonic and long-suffering) guy and trustworthy, through and through, but he was almost suspended from Ranger duty because of his wire-wolf condition. This is despite the fact that the moon that caused the transformation had been reportedly destroyed. However, to add more salt to the argument, it turned out Commander Nebula had a decent concern proven true when NOS-4-A2 showed up with a fragment to hang around Ty’s neck, and it really wouldn’t be any different where Warp is concerned.
That said, if the show had been allowed to go on, I wouldn’t have been too surprised if Warp ended up being instrumental in some major “save the universe” plot that got him a full pardon from his crimes, or something similar to that. I also maybe wouldn’t be half surprised if it turned out Warp had been acting double agent on Star Command’s orders so he could fool everyone and pull a double-double agent stunt on Zurg (it’s happened in fiction and real life before, and it probably would’ve been really ironic).
And is he a good guy deep down? That’s a complicated answer. To be frank, his moral priorities are very skewed. As I said before, willing betrayal is no small matter, and aiding and abetting a tyrannical despot in galactic conquest isn’t exactly shiny either. The only point in his favor is that Warp seems to care far more about the payoff than the ramifications, and it could be that in the long run he would’ve found out he wasn’t quite as comfortable with Zurg’s tyranny as he initially thought. But, bad guy or not, it’s quite obvious that he has emotions, concerns, and attachments just like anybody else. It’s obvious that Warp does care somewhat about Buzz, much to his own chagrin, and I could see how perhaps he’d try to ignore that as best he could in the spirit of professionalism. And, Buzz does seem to bring out the best in Warp during dicey situations. Quite frankly, Buzz was probably Warp’s very own “morality pet”, whether the big blue lug liked it or not.
In the end, I think the problem lay with Warp’s view on life and the universe at large. He’s very cynical when it comes to new players, and he seems to run his life based on an “every man for himself” philosophy. He likely believes that people only truly help each other if there’s some sort of benefit in it for them, and he acts as though he thinks he shouldn’t act any differently. If he only has his own self, and no one else, to look out for or even care about him an iota, then why should he stick his neck out for people who wouldn’t return the favor at a later point? Unless, that is, there was something in it for them. Hence, his comfort in his relative independence as Zurg’s agent. Warp does what Zurg asks, the evil emperor pays him, and everyone goes home happy. Warp can be assured he doesn’t have to step on too many egg shells as long as he maintains his competency and success, he doesn’t have to mingle with Grubs or Brainpods and pander to social expectations or team playing shenanigans (which probably had, and still would, unsettle him), and overall the arrangement keeps his situation and his relationship with Zurg in relatively simple perspective. So, until his views change, the status quo as Zurg’s agent isn’t likely to change either.
To conclude my train of thought, I think that Warp has the capacity to be a “good guy”, but I think he has to grow into understanding it first. I think he likely has a few psychological issues that he keeps buried, that hold him back from being what we see as being “good”, and it’s probably one of those “coming full circle” things. In the end, I’d say “only time will tell”, if there was even the remotest chance of the series ever being picked up again.
6. Many fans seem to think Warp is perv. Do you agree? Why or why not?
I think he’s a guy, just like any other guy, and he probably enjoys a d--n good one night stand whenever he can get the chance to, but I don’t think he’s overtly “perverted”. Whenever Warp and women are ever on screen together, in general he is dismissive of them beyond their services, and in maybe one flashback sequence he was lapping up their attention over a round a drinks. I think it’s certainly implied that he enjoys a woman’s company, and probably unmentionable other things, when it’s convenient but in my mind that just tells me he’s a guy. Obvious attraction to the opposite sex and openly enjoying sexual activities doesn’t mean you’re automatically a pervert. If anything, it means you’re a healthy, feeling, well-adjusted being.
7. Share your impressions on Drained!Warp in “Ancient Evil”.
My first thoughts were, “Oh my god, I can’t believe I’m seeing this!” (keeping in mind I was ten or eleven at the time). It’s a bit jarring I guess to see the big macho baddie who simply exudes willful force and hedonism suddenly appear all shriveled up and you remember, oh yeah, everyone grows old eventually. In retrospect, now that I’m thinking about it, I think the whole experience probably had a much deeper impact on Warp than he’d readily admitted at the time. I’d even go so far as to say he was bit shaken by the experience, in his own way. It’s easy to tell this as there is a marked difference between his behavior at the end of the episode and his behavior before he was “drained” at the beginning of the episode and in episodes previous. Some of it had to do with the shock of losing his accustomed strength and fitness and suddenly becoming so weak he could hardly stand, but a lot of it probably had more to do with his near brush with death. I mean, what better way to confront your own mortality than to be prematurely jump-started years in age so that you’re, for all intents and purposes, an old decrepit man about to shuffle off at a moment’s notice (pending health complications)? A state of being, which I should point out, that will reoccur at some point in the far future unless Warp dies before then.
That said, I think the whole ordeal definitely put some things in perspective for Warp. Immediately after it was all over, he seemed far more receptive to Buzz than he ever had been, and a bit more open about his regard and concern for him. Buzz seemed to acknowledge it as well (hence, taking a “personal day”). Aside from that, it’s obvious that it probably affected other priorities as well (if only slightly so), but sadly we never got a chance to see what permanent effect, if any, the experience would’ve had. I’ve always been in favor that it probably left a lasting impression on him, and I’ll stand by this until proven otherwise.
8. Favorite Warp episode.
The only two episodes that really highlighted on Warp’s character as a focal point in the overall plot was “Tag Team” and “Ancient Evil”. I don’t really remember off the top of my head who wrote the script for either episode, but it’s fairly obvious that these two episodes defined Warp’s real character arc within the span of the show, with “Ancient Evil” more or less being the spiritual sequel to “Tag Team”. By a very slight margin, “Tag Team” is my favorite because we found out a lot of interesting factoids about Warp and I enjoyed the open exploration. I also enjoyed watching Buzz find some of this stuff out for the first time too, and even despite some of the really severe things he still expresses to Warp that he wishes he’d just wise up and come back to Star Command and be a Space Ranger again, like the good old days. D’aww~.
9. Favorite animation style.
By far Warp looked, and was animated, best in the episode "NOS-4-A2". The entire fight scene at the beginning of the episode was just a delight, and all the movements looked so smooth and seamless, especially as he effortlessly tripped up the rookies of Team Lightyear time and again until Buzz showed up. There was also a fair bit of secondary animation (primary animation being, say, a guy walking across the room and secondary animation being a guy fixing his hat as he walks across the room) which is always a bonus. Also, his smirk was just priceless the whole time. And his weapons constantly disintegrating in his hands, I couldn’t help chuckling a bit at that.
11. Favorite lines.
“You are deceptively light my friend!” caused me to outright guffaw when I heard it for the first time. It just sounded so flippant and surprisingly affable.
“What PLOT!? You think Zurg is behind every kitten stuck up a tree!” is a favorite too. Any sane person who wasn’t a backstabbing spy would’ve said the same thing after checking over HALF THE MOONS in that particular quadrant. It’s an interesting line in retrospect too, because Warp is probably perfectly aware of where the lost LGMs are, and would’ve had to been frustrated that Buzz is right on the mark despite the fact that had it been anyone other than Buzz they probably would’ve given up the search some time ago. I’d probably get really irritated too, had it been me.
“Saw it coming…” was awesome in retrospect too. Oh, the irony. XD
“A Dungeon. Cooool. Kinda retro.” Warp taught me the word “retro” when I was kid. And, in hindsight, it’s such a awesomely quirky line when it’s coming from him.
12. Favorite moments/scenes.
Any time Warp and Buzz have banter;
Buzz: “How do I safely remove this thing, from my neck.”
Warp: “If you’re referring to your head, I completely understand your desire to exchange it for another.”
Ooo, that was a BURN. XD
Warp: “…Aah ha ha…alright, Lightyear—”
Buzz: “Ah, mister rich, evil genius here is asking the good guy for help, huh? Well, now, maybe you’ll read some of my training manuals instead of roasting marshmallows over them.”
Warp: “You just can’t let that go, can you?”
Also, I love the bit where Buzz says offhandedly something about “springing for the optional wrist laser”, in “Tag Team”, after he apparently realizes he doesn’t have his own weapon. Then Warp just casually tosses him one of “stolen Star Command armaments” (I always presumed, anyway) that Buzz was trying to arrest him for at the beginning of the episode. The looks on their faces during this exchange are just priceless.
Also, not least of all is that small moment in the movie where, at the beginning, Buzz can't get the door to the super secret base open. Warp just casually tells him to "let him try", knocks on the door like an ordinary person, and just waits for the grub to open it before whiplashing it back into the poor bug's face to gain entry. Just. Classic.
There’s probably other examples of banter that they have that are just GUH, but I’m too lazy to go look them up now. I just gave you all the memorable stuff right there, so huzzah.
13. Best moment. Scariest moment.
If by “best” moment you mean “most heartwarming”, then I guess it’d be at the end of “Ancient Evil” where after Warp saves Buzz’s hide, Buzz just sounds so…touched, and somewhat awed, over the deed. That was always nice to hear that; I think Warp was trying to tone down the mushy though, because he just half-heartedly snarked back, brushing it off as if it wasn’t that big a deal. More d’aww.
Scariest moment? Ummmm…that’s kind of hard because it’s a kid’s show and really not meant to be scary. But, I guess I got one. It was in the “The Adventure Begins”, when you realize that Warp was willing to utterly bury everything he ever shared or experience with Buzz in favor of letting him get “Zurgified”. And I mean the entire scene. I mean, this isn’t just some mercenary job where Buzz is in the way of a paycheck, it’s like a hop and skip away from total galaxy-wide subjugation. And Warp has absolutely no problem completely breaking Buzz with the cold hard truth about who and what he actually is, citing quite flippantly how the evil side of the spectrum is “more fun”, aside from being more profitable. All of it was, seemingly, generally indicative of just how little the good and bad times, the blood, sweat, tears, and the trust, meant to Warp. And I’m like “Daaamn, that’s cold.” Something like that would scare me on an interpersonal level; just how important to my friends is my blood, sweat, and tears?
14. Wine, Dare, other pairing, or no pairing?
Considering “Wine” is Warp x Mira and Dare is a Warp x OC pairing…well, I don’t really have a lot of choices now, do I? Not that I mind pairings (I’m actually what people call a “multishipper”, meaning I have the amazing ability to ship the same character with, oh my, different people), but, when I do fangirl about pairings, I tend towards pairings that are either very in character or else nobody else has thought of it before (I tend to kind of…launch crack ships and somehow make them plausible).
Again, not a lot of choices for Warp. Actually though, I may have an OC for him, that I’m still brainstorming, but well…I try to avoid having too many OCs. Who knows though, if you guys want to see it, maybe I’ll post a profile of her on the forum? For fun’s sake?
15. GIRLS ONLY (just in case any guys do this meme): Telling Question – This is unlikely, considering that we’re all just a bunch of cartoon geeks, but! Provided that you’re not already spoken for, if Warp asked you to marry him, WOULD YOU SAY YES?
Honestly? No. I’m not saying Warp isn’t a nice catch and all, in fact he’d be very nice if he were real; tall, in shape, big arm muscles (squee <3), witty sense of humor, and et all. But, fact is, he’s a cynical and greedy scoundrel, and a traitor who aids and abets a known despot. Also, there’s the teeny tiny fact that he’s probably too old anyways. Also, can’t forget, he’s a cartoon character too, which renders it all moot point anyway.
If he weren’t a traitor, and my age, and, well, real? Sure, I’d try dating him but even then I might not end up with him. Personality has to be right, and Warp tends to be rather flippant about a lot of things that I consider important (my friends have deemed me to be of “lawful good” alignment). Soooo…I don’t know. I guess it depends on whether or not if I could live with it. *shrugs*
…That’s it I guess. I’ve already said, like, A LOT. So, you guys talk about it now I guess.
